Kumasi, July 4, GNA – A special church service has been held in Kumasi to cut the sod for the construction of a new church building for the Ramseyer Presbyterian Church at Adum, a suburb of Kumasi.

According to the Administrator of the Church, Mr Francis Boakye Agyemang, the ultra-modern catheral with a seating capacity of 3,000, was estimated at the cost of GH¢ 350,000.

The project is expected to be completed in two years.

Mr Agyemang explained that with the current growth and expansion in membership and general administration of the church, the present church house built by the early Basel Missionaries led by Reverend Fritz Ramseyer in 1907, could serve other vital purposes other than the main worship place.

Preaching the sermon at the service, the immediate past Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Very Rev Dr Yaw Frimpong Manso advised people in responsible positions to be up to the task because it is God who raise people to higher levels of responsibility and if they failed to perform such task the same God can bring them down and get others in their places.

He, therefore, advised all people in leadership positions to submit to the authority and direction of God.

At the same ceremony, an 18-unit two storey primary school block comprising 12 classrooms, an ICT centre, a library, an office and a multi-purpose hall valued at the cost of GH¢ 800,000 was also inaugurated.

The Akyempemhene, Oheneba Adusei Poku, who represented the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, performed both sod-cutting and the inauguration ceremonies.

He later planted a tree in front of the school block to commemorate the occasion.

Other dignitaries present at the function included the Asante Presbytery Chairman, Rev Dr K. Opuni-Frimpong, Rev Rexford K. Asamoah-Prah, the Kumasi District Minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev Dr A Opoku Nyantekyi, Second Minister Ramseyer Presby Church, Adum and Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor, former Defence Minister who represented former President John Agyekum Kufuor as well as ex-Kwasohene, Nana Ofosu Agyemang and a host of others.
