Accra, July 4, GNA – Over 100 athletes have confirmed their participation in the second edition of the rlg Ghana Grand Prix billed for the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi on Friday.
Information gathered by GNA Sports indicate that about 45 international athletes will join 60 locally based ones to compete in the events which serves as the final competition for individual athletes yet to book a place for the Olympic Games later this month.
Track and field athletics have started arriving in Ghana for the one-day event expected to have plum athletes like Margret Simpson, track queen, Vida Anim and Ignatius Gaisah on parade.
International athletes, Nichole Denby, Alie Israel, Shericha Mozell, Jarod Tobler and Terrell Wilks are billed to compete in 100m hurdles, 100m, 200m, long jump and among others.
Ghana's trio of Allah Laryea-Akrong, Tim Abeyie and Ashhad Agyapong are tipped to run within the Olympic time in their quest to join Anim, Gaisah and Simpson to hoist the country's flag at the quadrennial gathering.
The Ghana Grand prix designed by the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) to revitalize athletics in the country is also aimed at encouraging the youth to take interest in the sport.
