Mobole (G/R), July, 3, GNA - Mobole District Assembly Junior High School near Dodowa, has been adjudged the winner of the 2012 Excellent School Awards.
The school scored the highest point to win the Award based on teacher attendance, observation of sanitation on campus, outstanding participation of the community in the school's management towards the implementation of the School Improvement Plan.
Speaking at a ceremony on Tuesday to present the Award to the school authorities, Mr Prem Skula, Country Director of Plan Ghana, said out of 80 schools who applied, the Mobole D/A JHS was rated the best school for the award.
The school would receive a library and a fully furnished Information Communication Technology Center.
The Prampram D/A 'B' JHS was second while Ayatapa D/A JHS in Ningo was adjudged the third.
Two teachers, Mr Edward Nartey, received the Best Male Teachers Award and Ms Mabel Atseku, received the Best Female Teacher Award. They were both given a laptop computer each.
He said the competition was part of the Transition and Persistence (TAP) project being funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) implemented by Plan Ghana.
Mrs Sarah Banashek, Deputy Director of Education Department of USAID, said the initiative was to support that nation's quest to meet the Millennium Development Goal on education.
"This is to ensure that children successfully transit from primary to Junior High School with ease", she said.
Mr Emmanuel Kwame Aboagye, Head Master of Mobole School JHS receiving the award paid tribute to the community management committee for their support towards the welfare of the school.
He said through the partnership with the community many challenges including the provision of potable water, and the accommodation of teachers had been resolved.
He said the institution of an endowment fund to support needy student had helped them to improve the performance of the Basic Education Certificate Examination consistently.
Nene Tetteh Kojo, Chief of Mobole expressed joy and pledged the support of the community to help improve the quality of teaching and learning.
