Kumasi July 3, GNA - Fifty-four couples who worship at the Saint Peter's Minor Basilica in the Kumasi Archdioceses of the Catholic Church, over the weekend tied the knot in a mass wedding ceremony.
The couples, including a septuagenarian groom took the matrimonial oaths to pledge their love and commitment to their respective spouses at the solemn but colourful ceremony.
In a message, Monsignor Raphael Owusu-Peprah, Rector of the Saint Peters' Basilica commended all the 108 people for their desire to perform holy matrimony, to fulfil one of the holy sacraments in the church.
He said there was the need for marriage to be kept sacred and be accorded the due respect to ensure its longevity.
The Rector expressed concern about the recent reported cases of spousal killings in the country and called on the new couples to be very prayerful and pray at all times when confronted with any challenge instead of listening to friends and other family relations who could bring conflict into the marriage.
In a homily, Reverend Father Michael Kwaku Boahen, Assistant Priest of the church reminded the couples to remember their first love whenever they were confronted with any challenge during the marriage.
He urged the newlyweds to respect and be faithful and truthful to one another if they want to obtain a happy marriage.
The Assistant Priest appealed to relatives of couples to desist from interfering in marriage issues since it had the potential to mar otherwise happy and successful marriages.
