
International track and field athletes have started arriving for Friday's 2012 rlg Ghana Grand Prix in Kumasi.
The event, which will be the second edition, is hosting over 45 foreign athletes and 60 locally based Ghanaian athletes in a four-hour international athletics competition at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Orgnisers, the Ghana Athletics Association, say 35 of the expected foreign athletes have already arrived. The include an American team comprising Nichole Denby (100m hurdles), Alie Israel (100m/200m), Shericka Mozell (100m/100m hurdles), Jarod Tobler (Long Jump) and Terrell Wilks (100m/200m).
Ghana's foreign-based athletes, many of who were in Benin for the African championships will also be competing in Friday's meet.
The 2012 rlg Ghana Grand Prix is taking place under the distinguished patronage of President John Evans Atta Mills, and is part of the Ghana Athletics Association's efforts towards revitalizing athletics in Ghana, and encouraging the young ones to take an interest in the sport.
The Grand Prix is a one-day professionally organized international athletics event, sponsored by rlg Communications. Other partners are GCNET, Ghana AIDS Commission, Ghana Television, GBC Radio, Daily Graphic and the Daily Express Newspaper.
