The three paramount chiefs in the newly created Asante-Akim North District, with its capital at Agogo, have pledged to collaborate to ensure peace in the district.
They also appealed to the assembly members to ensure that they work in unison towards the development of the district.
They said it was important for the district to unite at all times and allow peace to prevail to guarantee the accelerated development of the area.
The paramount chiefs, Nana Kwame Akuoko-Sarpong, Agogo; Nana Kwame Agyemang-Teatoa, Juansa; and Nana Frimpong-Afoakwa, Domeabra, made the common call during the official inauguration of the Asante-Akim North District at Agogo last week.
Nana Kwame Agyemang Teatoa advised the new assembly members not to go the path of the former Asante-Akim North Municipal Assembly, now Asante -Akim Central, which for more than a year could not elect a presiding member (PM) and that made the assembly ungovernable.
He noted that that situation made the district to lose its share of the national cake.
He advised the members to always place premium on the development of the district by working towards unity.
Nana Frimpong Afoakwa advised the assembly members not to allow their party affiliations to take precedence over their effort in improving the lives of their people.
He also called on members to consult the chiefs periodically, as many of them had experience and knew how to contribute to the district's development efforts.
Nana Akuoko Sarpong noted that the relationship between himself and the other two paramount chiefs, as well as the two divisional chiefs of Hwidiem and Akutuase, was so strong that they could work in concert to enable the district become a show-piece in the Ashanti Region.
Nana Sarpong stressed that they understood each other and would not let such privilege slip by, adding “we will not toy with it'.
Nana Sarpong, who is also a member of the Council of State, on behalf of the chiefs and people, thanked the President, John Evans Atta Mills, and further assured him that they would do everything possible to sustain the growth of the assembly.
