The Cry Of A Dejected Foot Soldier: IS THERE NO LEADER IN NDC?

Report: Kofi Owusu Tawiah

RECENT wrangling within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has awakened an ardent member of the umbrella family, Alhaji Abdullai Toppoh, former Chairman of Amenfi West constituency to call for cease fire and Allah's intervention to end what he has described as turbulent times.

Abdullai Toppoh, whose father Alhaji Issiful Toppoh, was a close friend of the Rawlingses and founding member of the NDC could not fathom why the party was going through what he termed “unending tribulations”.

“A day never passes without trouble from the 10 regions of the country. It's either a foot soldier against another, District Chief Executive against constituency Officers or infighting amongst national executives of the party. This is becoming too much. Allah must intervene quickly or we will lose power to our enemies the NPP”.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Daily STAR Alhaji Toppoh Junior wondered if the NDC was not under some spiritual curse, stressing that recent happening within the party was beyond human comprehension.

Citing latest comments by Johnson Asiedu Nketia and women's organizer, Ms Anita Desooso, the cadre called on the party's National Council to be bring the two national officers to order.

According to him, the comment purported to have been made by Ms Anita Desooso that “President Rawlings cannot do without the party”, was very misplaced. He maintained, former President Rawlings could do without the party.

Speaking on Ephson File a political programme on radio XYZ hosted by Ben Ephson editor of the Daily Dispatch newspaper last week, Ms Desooso asserted that President Mills has never offended ex President Rawlings, and blamed the bitter relationship between the founder of the party and the President on some spiritual forces.

“Comments like this coming from national executive member breed divisions and inflame passions because some of us will not sit unconcerned for such unpalatable comment to be made against the founder of our party”.

On comments by party's chief scribe at a meeting with party supporters where he was reported to have asked them to ignore Mr. Rawlings on his incessant attacks on the President John Mills-led NDC administration, he described it as unbecoming of a general secretary to a party in government.

Mr. Asiedu-Nketia had admonished party followers who believe in the principles of June 4 to positively defy any suggestion by the Rawlingses which will send the NDC into opposition.

Alhaji Toppoh however argued, “rather, it is the corruption which is gradually engulfing the government that will send the party into opposition and not the Rawlingses”.

He said the party founder has done no damage to the party; rather he is drawing their attention to the enormous failures of the NDC government, insisting that the ex-president has been consistent in doing this over the years.

He vowed that nothing will stop the ex President and his followers from critisising the Mills administration.
