TWO WORKERS of MSF Construction Limited met their untimely death at the weekend after a Kia truck ran over them and three other colleagues while working on a portion of the Bekwai-New Edubiase road at Medoma in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region.

The truck with registration number AS 7488-11, which was heading towards Kumasi from Twifo-Praso, accidently ran over the five workers after crashing into a roller alongside the road, killing Samuel Amponsah instantly and causing serious injuries to the rest.

Stephen Amankwah, one of the injured, died on arrival at the Bekwai Government Hospital where he and the others had been taken to for treatment.

DSP Daniel Anane Amoah, Fomena District Police Commander, who confirmed the tragic incident, told DAILY GUIDE that the driver, Kofi Appiah Nuamah, in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision with a 207 Benz bus, veered off the road and crashed into the roller.

According to the police chief, the 56-year-old driver from that moment lost control of the steering wheel, consequently running the Kia truck into the workers, killing one of them on the spot around 10am.

Eyewitnesses said the man who died on the spot had his head crashed while other victims had their stomach and legs split open, with intestines gushing out.

DSP Amoah said the bodies of the deceased persons had been deposited at the Bekwai and New Edubiase Government hospitals, awaiting autopsy.

He noted that the 56-year-old driver was in custody assisting the police with investigation.

The police commander advised motorists to be circumspect while driving on the road since it was still under construction.

In another development, a young man suspected to be in his 30s was killed after a Land Cruiser vehicle coming from Cape Coast, heading towards the Kumasi direction, knocked him down while crossing the same road at Fumso, also in the Adansi North District.

Kwame Asare, who had gone to the community for final funeral rites of a friend, was crossing the road to join other mourners on the other side when the Land Cruiser with registration number GR 6887-10 and driven by Yaw Boakye crushed him to death.

His body has been deposited at the New Edubiase Government Hospital whilst the driver remains in police custody.
