Take pride in the nation's rich cultural heritage - Enyan

Nyinahin (Ash), June 21, GNA – The Atwima-Mponua District Education Director, Mrs Georgina Enyan, has encouraged the youth to take pride in the nation's rich cultural heritage and do everything to protect it.

This, she said, was necessary to help maintain the identity of the people and the bond of unity and cohesion of the society.

She told them to reject foreign cultures that tend to adore and value indiscipline and violence adding that it was also important to avoid indecent and provocative dressing.

Mrs Enyan was opening this year's Ashanti Zone Five Festival of Arts for Senior High Schools (SHS) at Nyinahin.

The event brought together students in SHS in four districts including Atwima-Nwabiagya, Atwima-Mponua, Atwima-Kwanwoma and Ahafo-Ano North.

They competed in poetry recital, drum language, dancing and choral music.

“The role of our culture in a changing society” was the theme.

Mrs Enyan used the occasion to highlight the need to jettison cultural practices and traditions that are inimical to the development of the girl-child and women.

She called on parents to put premium on the education of girls saying they should be given every opportunity to fully exploit their potentials.
