FRIENDS OF Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings (FONKAR) has acquired legal backing for its existence as an NGO essentially parrying copyright infringement or even impersonations by persons the executives regard as harboring sinister motives.

Flaunting the certificates last Tuesday St. Osei, a leading member of FONKAR pointed out that anybody who attempts infringing upon the rights of the entity would be taken on legally.

The Certification Of Incorporation dated May 17 2012 is hinged on the Companies Act, 1963 (Act 179) which spells out that the liability of its members is limited by guarantee.

FONKAR is by the certificate granted it authorized to promote youth empowerment, fight for social justice in society, encourage social advocacy on national issues, foster good neighbourliness, sustain peace in communities and ensure that good health reaches every doorstep in the community.

Now recognized as an NGO, the registered offices of FONKAR are located at Abavana Down in Accra according to the certificate of commencement of business.

National officers of the NGO are Messrs Emmanuel St. Osei, National Coordinator, Sakut Amengo, General Secretary, Osei Bempah, aka Abua Papuun, Director of Operations, Alhaji Naziru, Strategist, Charles Opoku, National Organizer, Clement Gudah, Deputy Operations Director, Ibrahim Hady, Assistant National Organizer, Rashid Alhassan, Strategist and Chris Dugan, Strategist.

Others are Kojo Holdbrook, Chairman of the Council of Elders, Joseph Bediako, Director of Finance and Ruth Seddoh, Women's Organizer.

FONKAR has played immense roles in championing the political cause of the former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings especially towards the controversial Sunyani congress of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Its pool of political commentators appear on myriad radio programmes challenging the political status quo on national issues and largely punching holes in governance in the Mills' administration.

The grouping's role in making the last June 4 celebration take place at Aflao in spite of several attempts by some interest groups thought to be acting on behalf of government to thwart it, has enhanced its standing in local politics.

Now that the group has been registered political observers will wait to see how they undertake their programmes especially against the backdrop of their position that they would decide who goes to the Castle in 2013.

Ernest Owusu Bempah's arrest by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) after an abrasive remark on radio made national headlines.
