The Managing Director of Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB), Mr. Simon Dornoo has revealed that the bank is adopting strategies to re-brand and reposition GCB among the top banks in Africa.
He said, “We have a strong franchise locally and internationally and we have to build upon it to gain a competitive advantage”.
Mr. Dornoo revealed this, when Ms. Mariolla Baffour, the GCB Best Graduating BSc. Administration Student in Banking and Finance from the University of Ghana, Legon for the year 2011/12 called on him in Accra.
He said GCB will encourage excellence at all levels through such schemes and congratulated Ms. Baffour for winning this prestigious award.
He urged her to take up challenges as they come and not be afraid of making mistakes adding that it is the most effective way of learning to be the best in one's field.
Ms. Baffour completed a year's internship with Goldman Sachs in the United Kingdom and is currently on the electronic foreign exchange and commodities sales desk in the Securities Division as an employee of the company.
She expressed her profound gratitude to the Bank for initiating an award such as this which recognizes hard work and added that it is her intention to garner all the expertise and return to put it to good use.
The award was instituted nine years ago in celebration of the Bank's Golden Jubilee to identify academic excellence in the study of Banking and Finance and reward the best graduating student. The award comes with a certificate and GHC1, 000.00.
