CAPE COAST  FALLS FOR PPP

Following the impressive and successful launch of the party's 2012 parliamentary and presidential campaigns in Elmina in the Central Region, the Progressive People's Party (PPP) moved to the Cape Coast constituency where it showed off its strength in the capital town of the Region. The party's procession with three brass bands and asafo groups from the Robert Mensah Stadium to the Ato Austin Gardens near the Cape Coast Castle was a wonderful sight to see. The entire national executives, Central Regional executives and many parliamentary candidates of the party participated in the event.

Many in the municipality could not believe the enthusiasm and youthful characteristic of the members and supporters of the PPP. At the Kotokoraba market area, the joy of the traders and shop keepers was infectious as people poured into the street to give encouragement to the party. The common expression heard during the procession through the town was “This year we will vote for the PPP”.

As was the case during the launching of the party's national campaign at Elmina, the speakers at a rally to conclude the day's event stressed the commitment of the PPP to eradicate corruption, tribalism, preventable diseases such as malaria, cholera and free, job creation and compulsory and continuous education from kindergarten to senior high school. They affirmed the party's determination to be disciplined, show respect to all and only talk about what the PPP can do to transform Ghana into a prosperous country.

The national team was led by the Chairman, Mr. NiiAllotey Brew-Hammond and included Vice Chairman Alhaji Ibrahim Seidu, National Secretary Kofi Asamoah-Siaw, National Youth Coordinator Divine Nkrumah, National Women's Coordinator BerlindaBulley, National Volunteer Coordinator NiiArmahNkunim and the National Treasurer Mr. Felix Ograh. A delegation of the Ashanti Regional executives of the party and some parliamentary candidates from that region participated in the event. They announced their determination to prove that the Ashanti region does not belong to any one political party.

The PPP's Candidate for the Cape Coast Constituency, Mrs. Sarah EwuresiBucknor was introduced at the rally by the party's Presidential Candidate. She thanked her family, friends and the members of the party for their support and encouragement and announced her preparedness to engage in a vigorous campaign to win the Cape Coast seat and go to Parliament come January 2013. Mrs. Bucknor was concerned about the education of the children and job creation. She pledged to dedicate her campaign to the many mothers, “abaatan” who are struggling to educate their children and raise them up to become responsible adults in the difficult environment we find ourselves in. Other speakers at the rally were the Parliamentary Candidates for the KEEA Constituency – Kojo Anan; Effutu Constituency – Nana OforiOwusu; MpohorWassa – Mrs Mary AnkomahBoakye-Boateng and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Dr. T. B. Kwofie.

The PPP's Presidential Candidate, Dr. Papa KwesiNduom pledged to use his experience in the hotel industry to improve the tourism prospects of Cape Coast and the entire Central Region in order to create jobs for the many unemployed youth. He said that it is about time that an airport is situated in the Cape Coast area to improve the industry. He told the excited supporters that he is the best candidate out of the three serious contenders for the presidency this year saying that “Adze papa wo fie a oye”. He asked the party's supporters to work very hard to send many PPP candidates to Parliament to fight to enact legislation that will throw government's weight behind the Ghanaian private sector. He said that the party's strength lies in the quality of its parliamentary candidates.

The PPP is calling on all Ghanaians to be Awake to the task of uprooting corruption, preventable diseases, tribalism and self-centred leadership from the country. The party of the burning bright red sun is determined to bring incorruptible leadership to Ghana to solve the many problems facing our people.
