St Louis R/C JHS lacks infrastructural facilities - Headmistress

Mmrom (Ash), June 5, GNA – Madam Millicent Comfort Otoo, Headmistress of St Louis Roman Catholic Junior High School, has appealed to stakeholders of education to assist the academic facility to get additional structures to accommodate the expanding number of students.

She said the school which started in October, 1977 as a demonstration school, with 56 students currently has a population of 920.

Madam Otoo said the onus therefore falls on the Catholic Church, corporate bodies and benevolent individuals to come to the aid of the school to facilitate teaching and learning.

She made the call at the 7th Graduation and Open Day of the school at Mmrom near Ashtown in Kumasi.

The school lack adequate classroom blocks for the large number of students, compelling the education institution to organise classes under trees.

Madam Otoo revealed that due to the lack of standard computer laboratory, 10 computers and a projector donated to the school by the Agricultural Development Bank, through the initiative of the Member of Parliament for Manhyia, Mr Matthew Opoku Prempeh are still locked up in the store room.

She commended the school's Parent-Teacher Association for their unflinching support to the school.

Mr Yamoah Asare Konadu, President of Ghana Publishers Association, who was the guest speaker urged educational authorities to train the youth to become worthy citizens of the nation.

He said moral values are at the verge of decline and parents and teachers have the task of reversing the trend.

The event was climaxed with an exhibition of handiworks by the students and cadet display.

Prizes were awarded to deserving students and staff who excelled in their various field of endeavour, whilst 260 students also graduated.
