Drivers build storage facilities for maize dealers

Nkoranza (B/A), June 1, GNA – Members of Nkoranza Cargo Branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) are spending about GH¢ 52,000 to provide new shelter and storage facilities for maize dealers at the Nkoranza Market.

The provision of the new market structures has become necessary following the demolition of the old maize structures to give way for the construction of pavements at the lorry station.

Mr. Akwasi Afosa, Chairman of the Association, said this at a meeting with members of the GPRTU and some maize dealers at Nkoranza.

He said lack of storage facilities for maize dealers had become a major challenge,as the problem had reduced the number of traders who do business at the Nkoranza market.

Mr Afosa complained about accommodation for maize dealers, electricity and access road to the new maize market and appealed to the Nkoranza Municipal Assembly to act.

He said the Assembly should build permanent structures for the maize market to boost the activities of the dealers and commended Kwabre Rural Bank for offering them some credit facilities towards the construction of the new maize market.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency about the complaints by the maize dealers, Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, Nkoranza Municipal Chief Executive, said the Assembly was working hard to provide better structures for all traders in the new market.

He assured the Cargo Transport Owners and the maize dealers that the Assembly would ensure the new market place was developed to attract more traders.
