Financially challenged couple, Iliyasu Suleman and Ayisha Nuhu are the parents of a legless baby girl born at Accra New Town on Monday.
The baby was delivered at the Maamobi Polyclinic at 8.30am according to the father who said when the doctor called his attention to the state of the baby, he prayed for her in line with Islamic custom, accepting it as a dictate of God.
Iliyasu, 37 and a native of Yeji in the Brong Ahafo region said the naming ceremony for his daughter will be held on Monday, June 3.
When DAILY GUIDE visited their home in the Accra suburb there were a number of relations and well-wishers at hand to give the new mother a helping hand.
As Ayisha, 25, who has been married for the past five years narrated her story, she broke down sobbing even as she was consoled by those around to give everything to God.
The legless baby is her second child; the first, a boy, stood by as his mother as she was being interviewed.
She pleaded with the public to assist them to cater for her baby.
Referred to as a congenital deformity, the medical challenge can sometimes also affect the arms of newborns.
According to the UK's Association of Children's Prosthetic-Orthotic Clinic, congenital deformities present one of the greatest and most tragic problems known to medicine.
After such births, the parents especially the mother suffers psychological challenges which affect her health, requiring treatment and counseling from experts and family members.
Members of the public who intend to support the couple may call the father on 0201442479.
