Western Regional Inter-party dialogue committee inaugurated

Sekondi, May 31, GNA – Mr. Kusi Aboraah, Western Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education, on Thursday said comparing the country's democratic credentials with other Africa countries, was a great disservice since there were no best or better practices on the continent.

He said Ghana should rather compare its democracy to that of advanced countries such as Great Britain and France.

Mr. Aboraah noted: “Ghana is seen as a beacon of Africa's democracy but there was more to be done to nurture the country's democratic credentials to ensure sustaining peace and stability”.

He made the observation at the inauguration of the Western Regional Inter-party Dialogue Committee at Sekondi.

The five-member committee made up of Bishop Emmanuel Botchway, Chairman, Alhaji Dauda Nuhu Vice Chairman, Ibn Hassan Organiser, Mr. Agyeman Asamoah Secretary, and Mrs. Mildred Siabi-Mensah , Treasurer, would provide effective platform for key stakeholders to engage with political parties.

It would also provide the effective strategies aimed at achieving free, fair and peaceful elections.

Mr. Aboraah said that the committee would work with the Regional and National enforcement bodies of the Code of Conduct for political parties, as proposed by the Institute of Economic Affairs, to help monitor the code and apply the appropriate sanctions against those who would abuse the code.

Bishop Botchway called on Ghanaians to ensure peace in Election 2012.
