TMA Hands Over Market To Fish Sellers

The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) has presented a rehabilitated market to fish sellers at the Tema New Town to boost trading activities.

The market, which was rehabilitated at the cost of GH¢200,000, was destroyed by rainstorm last year in the community.

During the brief handing over ceremony, the Mayor of Tema, Robert Kempes Ofosu-Ware, said that last year while on a trip in the USA, he had a distress call that a heavy downpour had destroyed the sheds under which the fisher sellers operated.

He stated that he quickly asked the surveyor to go and quantify the cost for the rehabilitation of the market.

According to him, the 'Better Ghana' Agenda transcend to all aspects of the economy and as such the assembly was committed to ensuring that every facet of the economy benefited.

The Mayor added that the assembly intends to upgrade the whole market to suit the community, noting that they would add 50 more local ovens know as Chokor Smokers, dredge the canoe basin and also complete road at the Mark Hotel, all in Tema and Tema New town.

He noted also that a team of engineers would soon go to the market to conduct feasibility study so that work could begin to provide wooden shops for traders as well as yam sellers to enable them offload their goods with ease.

He used the occasion to appeal to the market women to retain the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in power come December to continue the 'Better Ghana' Agenda.

On his part, the Tema Mantse, Nii Kraku II, cautioned the market women to endeavor to keep the place clean at all times, ensure that sanity prevails at all times and pay their tolls to help the assembly work effectively.

He thanked the assembly for responding to the call of the market women after the destruction of their sheds.

A representative, Madam Adokor, who spoke on behalf of the market women, expressed gratitude to the assembly for coming to their aid and promised to keep the market clean at all times.
