The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, has rubbished calls for President John Evans Atta Mills to be given a second term to rule the country.

According him, such a call was misplaced since it was evident that a second term would be disastrous, as President Mills had failed Ghanaians on several promises he made to them prior to the 2008 elections.

He mentioned the inability of government to implement the one-term premium under the National Health Insurance Scheme among others, noting that such failures could not be allowed to continue.

Speaking to teeming supporters of the NPP in Tamale to round off his five-day campaign tour of the region, which coincided with the party's youth forum also in Tamale, the flagbearer reiterated that his policies and programmes would not be allowed to gather dust in the shelves.

He stated that he was poised to deliver and indicated that all he had said and promised would be action-based, underscoring the need for people of the region to support him overwhelmingly.

Nana Addo disclosed that good policies on agriculture, education and health were paramount to his government, observing that all these were ingredients to the growth of the economy.

He underscored the importance of the youth in his developmental agenda for the country, emphasizing that the youth would be at the forefront of the implementation of his policies and programmes outlined for the country.

He promised to make available necessary ingredients that would engineer the youth to champion his vision in realizing a developed Ghana under his rein.

He lashed out at governmental for its lack of foresight in tackling a radical paradigm shift in its developmental approach, stating that a Nana Addo-led government would manifest its expertise in developing various spheres of the economy.

'We begin with education because we have to prepare the youth for the future of Ghana. We want every single child in Ghana to have a secure quality education from kindergarten right up to SHS,' Nana Addo said to a cheering crowd of NPP supporters.

On his part, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, running mate to the NPP leader, noted that Mills and his team lacked the foresight to govern the country and should not be given another term.

He mentioned the drastic decline in industry and agriculture which, according to him, were major banes of growth of the economy, as an example.

Nana Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia have since begun their 'Tour to Restore Hope' in the Upper East Region.

Meanwhile, the massive turnout at Tamale seems to suggest that the NPP is making giant strides ahead of the December polls in terms of votes.

Dr. Clifford Braimah, Northern regional scribe of the party, in a short interaction with DAILY GUIDE explained that the regional hierarchy, as part of its short and medium term strategy, would replicate the restoring hope tour in various constituencies, stating that the NPP had already won the polls.

'We are not going to be complacent but I can assure you that we are leaving no stone unturned to emerge victorious come December 7,' he remarked.

He however called on party supporters to be vigilant since the election could be won or lost at the polling stations.

Dr. Braimah stated that the poverty levels of non-party members had pushed many of them into campaigning for the NPP, stating that general hardships could escalate if the electorate made a mistake in giving the NDC another term.
