VRA opens club house in Accra

Accra, May 27, GNA – Professor Akilakpa Sawyerr, Board Chairman of Volta River Authority (VRA), at the weekend inaugurated a club house for the Authority in Accra.

The club house, which was sponsored by Access Bank have facilities such as a gym, bar and tennis court.

Prof Sawyerr said there was the need for VRA workers to have some facilities for exercising and entertainment.

Mr Maxwell Odoom, Deputy Chief Executive of VRA, explained that the club house was developed for the well being of its workers and the public.

He noted that there was the need to motivate staff through fun games and socialisation as well as creating a healthy balance between work and life.

“As part of VRA 50th anniversary celebration, management has decided to have a few facilities for workers to exercise and have fun,” he added.

Mr Odoom mentioned that there would be establishment of club houses in Aboadze, Akosombo, Akuse and Tema with sponsorship from Sahara Energy, Fidelity Bank, Stanbic Bank and Eco Bank.

Mr David Churcher, a former coach of Davis Cap Team and a retired tennis player, praised the tennis court, saying: “The surface looks good, fencing and colour are excellent as well as the hitting wall which could aid in individual training.”

Mr Churcher advised the public to get involved in a sport in order to be physically strong and healthy.

The opening of the club house brought together past and present executives and staff of the VRA from Aboadze, Akosombo, Akuse, and Tema.

The services of Apple Health Life Club were employed to check the status of body vitals such as Body Mass Index, blood pressure, weight, height and body fat.
