Nkyesa (Ash), Accra, May 23, GNA – A GH¢162,318.00 school block with an office, store and library built at Nkyesa, a farming community near Komeso in the Asante Akim South District, has been inaugurated amidst fanfare.
Funds for the project were provided by MTN Ghana, a leading mobile telecom company.
The structure replaces the old and dilapidated structure which had become a death trap in the area.
In addition to the building, MTN has made available GH¢ 10,000.00 towards the provision of furniture, teaching and learning materials to facilitate academic work.
Mr Micheal Ikpoki, the Chief Executive Officer of the Company, said the project is a demonstration of commitment to its social responsibility where giving back to society is a core value.
He said education is critical to the development of every society and asked all stakeholders to contribute their quota to enhance the quality.
Mr Ikpoki urged the community to do everything to ensure that it is kept in good shape at all times.
Mr Frank Yaw Musa, the District Director of Education, praised the company for the gesture and said it would significantly help to improve academic work in the school.
He appealed to MTN to assist in building a teachers' accommodation to end the present situation where they had to travel daily from outside the community to teach.
Mr De-graft Fokuo, the District Chief Executive (DCE), commended the company for complementing the assembly's effort at making education accessible to all and invited other corporate bodies to emulate the example of MTN.
