THE MEMBER of Parliament for Weija Constituency, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, has constructed a maternity shed for the Bortianor Health Center in the Ga South Municipal Assembly of the Greater Accra Region to promote quality healthcare delivery in the area.
The facility, which was built at the cost of GH¢17,000, will serve as a waiting room as well as resting place for mothers and pregnant women who visit the health centre for postnatal and antenatal care.
It was built at the request of the health authorities at the medical center who hitherto used canopies to accommodate the increasing number of visitors.
Inaugurating the medical facility, Ms. Botchway indicated that she was motivated by her desire to equip the health facilities in the Weija constituency with the needed infrastructure and equipment to promote quality healthcare delivery.
She has provided an ambulance to Ga South Municipal Health Directorate and other equipment to some health facilities in the Weija constituency.
The Bortianor Health Centre, the MP pointed out, faced a lot of challenges including lack of adequate infrastructure and poor electricity supply.
She called for the collaboration of all stakeholders in the healthcare delivery system, especially government, to expand the health centre for it to serve the increasing population in Bortianor and surrounding communities.
The health center, the MP stressed, should be expanded to take care of diseases such as malaria and cholera, which are major health concerns in the country.
The centre began operations around 2008, through the instrumentality of Ms. Botchway and other stakeholders including a German Non-Governmental Organisation, after being dormant for more than 12 years.
An officer in charge of the Bortianor Health Centre, Charity Adamah, thanked Ms. Botchway for her swift response to their request for the facility, appealing for more equipment such as furniture and hospital beds.
