Tumu, May 23, GNA – Women groundnuts farmers in the Sissala East District have appealed to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to include groundnuts cultivation in its block farming concept.
The women said groundnuts farming would be made easier if it was introduced into the concept to enable many more women to participate in the production of the crop to enhance their livelihoods.
Mr. Yaana Yahaya, the Executive Director of Rural Organisation of Women Farmers and Agro-Processing Development, made the called at a workshop organised for women groundnuts farmers from Tasor, Welembelle and Bugubelle on the best practices in the cultivation of the crop.
He said groundnut had become a cash crop in the area and urged the women to actively participate in its cultivation by expanding their farms as well as using improve seeds to increase their yields.
A representative from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture appealed to the women to cultivate the crop urged the government to support its production to become a major foreign exchange earner for the country.
