Statement: Civil Aviation clears air on Antrak Air Tamale incident

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority has noted reports on various radio stations about an incident involving Antrak Air in Tamale on Tuesday, 22nd May, 2012.

The facts of the matter are as follows:
1. Antrak Air after going through all approved procedures, boarded passengers bound for Accra from Tamale on their aircraft 9G - AAB.

2. During startup of the right engine, the crew observed smoke coming from the engine and conducted a pre-cautionary shut down.

3. Crew and passengers were safely evacuated and the aircraft was secured.

4. All passengers were transferred to other domestic airlines to Accra.

The aircraft has not burnt down and neither is there any loss of life or damage to property as reported by some sections of the media.

A repair team and two (2) Ghana Civil Aviation Authority Inspectors are currently on site to investigate the incident.

The Authority wishes to inform the general public that air safety is paramount in its operations and that the Authority would do its best to sustain and improve the level of aviation safety and security that exists within our industry.
