Bekwai (Ash), May 22, GNA - The Asante-Bekwai Constituency Executive of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has vowed to deal firmly with indiscipline and erring members.
They said they would invoke the party's constitution and apply the appropriate sanctions against them against anyone found guilty.
Mr Owusu Sarkodie, the Constituency Vice Chairman, said they would do everything to ensure that the party's interest is put ahead of individual political ambition and convenience.
This comes amidst reports of a plot by one of the leading members, desperate to contest the party's parliamentary seat, to foment trouble should he fail in his bid.
He said the aspirant is alleged to be holding secret meetings with some supporters of the NPP and officials of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in pursuit of this agenda.
Asante-Bekwai and Bosome-Freho are the only constituencies in the Ashanti Region where the NPP is yet to organize parliamentary primaries and the two seats are being held by Independent Candidates, aligned with the NPP.
Mr Sarkodie told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) they would never allow a repeat of the “2008 bitter experience” where a disputed parliamentary primary election, led to cracks in the party.
“Let me take this opportunity to get it across to anybody out there to cause mischief to rethink and have a change of heart, because there is no way they would succeed” and that the party would not leave anything to chance as they go into this year's crucial general polls.
He said they would do everything to maintain a solid and impregnable front and work with unity of purpose to increase its share of votes in the constituency.
Mr Sarkodie appealed to the rank and file to remain alert and refuse to be part of any evil scheme to undermine the unity and cohesion of the party.
