Takoradi, May 22, GNA - Madam Anna Mollel of Tanzania is the winner of the 2012 World's Children's Prize for the Rights of the Child for her more than 20-year struggle for Massai Children with disabilities.
Maame Esi Payne, Junior High School One pupil of the Takoradi International School, told a press conference organized by the National Coordinating Secretariat of the World's Children Prize (WCP) at Takoradi that it was part of the World Children's Prize process.
Maame Payne said the World's Children Honorary Award went to Madam Sakena Yacoobi of Afghanistan for her long and often life threatening fight for girls' right to education and Madam Ann Skelton of South Africa for her 25-year-old battle for the rights of children affected by the justice system.
Addressing the press conference, Master Judah Emmanuel Paddy Acquah of the Takoradi International School, said the WCP programme teaches children about the rights of the child and democracy and makes it possible for children to demand respect for their rights.
He said millions of children who participated in the programme have had their rights violated and some have been child soldiers and slaves or have been subjected to abuses.
Master Michelle Essel of the Takoradi International School said 51 million children around the world annually are not registered and there is no documentary proof that they exist.
