Kumasi, May 18, GNA – Ghanaians have been reminded to do away with unhealthy lifestyles to help rein in the growing incidence of hypertension, obesity, stroke and other non-communicable diseases.
They should be mindful of their eating habits and undertake regular physical exercises.
Mr Joseph Owusu, a Senior Instructor at the Mom's Health Club, was speaking at a forum held in Kumasi as part of activities to mark this year's hypertension day.
Members of the public were taken through aerobic and physical training exercises at the Club's modern gymnasium.
They also received tit-bits on the causes, effects and prevention of hypertension.
Mr Owusu said it is important to raise awareness and provide the people with all that they need to know about the high blood pressure disease.
It is estimated that the disease claims about 7.5 million lives annually, worldwide, and is ranked as the leading cause of mortality.
He counselled the people to frequently check their blood pressure, reduce salt and oil intake and avoid smoking and should eat more fruits and vegetables.
