The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirants for the Ketu South seat in the Volta Region are trying to outwit each other to represent the party in the constituency.

While some of the aspirants are alleged to be using agreement forms to compel delegates, others are using divide and rule tactics, while others are allegedly spreading cash and gifts to persuade delegates.

Among all these tactics, DAILY GUIDE has discovered that the spreading of money and gifts tops all.

A visit to the area and interactions among some of the delegates, party members and executives indicated that the primaries, which have been slated for Saturday May 26, 2012, would be extremely interesting.

Unlike other constituencies which had their primaries last January, Ketu South's primary was put on hold in anticipation of a split of the constituency into two separate ones.

Today, May 18, the seven aspirants who filed their nominations and were subsequently vetted at the constituency level on Friday May 11, 2012, would be vetted on a national level.

The constituency vetting, which was held at Denu, was chaired by the constituency chairman, Marshall Ackumey and supervised by the regional executive.

The seven aspirants are the incumbent MP, Albert Zigah; Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, a deputy Minister for Finance and Economic Planning; Raphael Alorwu, a National Service District Director and Elizabeth Kuenyefu, an educationist and a gender activist.

The rest are Nicholas Woclachie, a lecturer and PhD student of the Open University of Malaysia; Frederick Alipui, an Economic Consultant with considerable international experience and Nyphson Agbagedy, a former NDC parliamentary aspirant in the 2004 elections.

Meanwhile, a branch audit of the constituency delegates list was conducted on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, in Denu by a regional team of the NDC, led by Regional Secretary Simon Amegashie-Viglo and the constituency executive committee, to ascertain the authenticity of the list of delegates.

Although it is quite normal for the NDC parliamentary primaries in the region to be more competitive and daring, this year's edition has seen a lot of interesting outcomes, with some incumbents being given the boot while new entrants have gotten the nod.

In Ketu South, a critical analysis of the opinions of the delegates suggests that the competition is between the incumbent, Albert Zigah, Fiifi Kwetey and Mr. Alorwu.

Fiifi Kwetey's posters have engulfed the entire constituency, followed by that of Raphael Alorwu's, but interestingly Albert Zigah's posters are nowhere to be found.

The Deputy Communications Director of Friends for Fiifi Kwetey, Dominic Adoadzi, noted that from their ground work, the deputy minister stood tall among all the aspirants.

He noted that the people were yearning for a more articulate person to relay their concerns to parliament and also lobby for development projects, indicating that, that was what Fiifi Kwetey represented.

Desmond Tsewu, who spoke for Raphael Alorwu, also noted that his candidate was the winner in disguise and that come May 26, it would be confirmed.

An anonymous die-hard supporter of the incumbent, Albert Zigah, who is also a delegate, noted that the other candidates had no connection with the constituency. He added his tremendous work would prevail at the polls.

The NDC Regional Chairman, Simon Amegashie-Viglo, noted that they would ensure free and fair primaries come May 26.

He therefore urged the delegates to take a decision that would make the NDC the ultimate winner.
