OIAJ holds matriculation and graduation day

Kumasi (Ash), May 17, GNA – Sixty-seven students passed out, whilst 41 students were admitted into the Oxford Institute of Acting and Journalism (OIAJ), a private media training institution in Kumasi at this year's matriculation and graduation ceremony.

Established seven years ago, with 11 students, the school currently has a student population of 270, and prepares students for the media and business market; as well as the entertainment industry through film acting.

Speaking on the theme for the occasion; “The Role of the Media and Business in Our Democratic Dispensation”, the Executive Director of the Institute, Mr Daniel A.K. Ennin, urged media training institutions in the country to prepare students adequately enough, to churn out competent and well-qualified media practitioners for the nation.

He said the credibility and competence of the media must start right from the school, so that personnel would work with utmost professionalism, devoid of emotions and uphold the good image of the inky profession.

Mr Ennin further reminded media practitioners in the country of their role in the upcoming election, and called on them to be circumspect in their presentations and reportage.

He said the media has a crucial role to play in ensuring a peaceful environment before, during and after the general election.

The Executive Director later revealed that OIAJ graduates would join the National Service Scheme from September this year; while the management has signed memorandum of understanding (MOU) with some corporate business and institutions where students would go on internship in the course of their training.

The Chief Executive Officer of Aquei Allah Farms, Alhaji Suleman Dawuda, who chaired the function, advised the new students to take their studies seriously, and make good use of their time and energies, while in school.

Alhaji Dawuda congratulated the students for working hard to complete their courses successfully and urged them to work diligently in their various fields of endeavours.

Prizes were awarded to deserving students and staff who excelled in their various fields of endeavours in the school.

The overall best student award went to Mr Richard Tetteh Nanor, a trained teacher who enrolled for Broadcast Journalism.
