Kumasi, May 17, GNA – Christians have been asked to put the collective good of society ahead of personal comfort and convenience.

The Reverend Father Daniel Opoku, Parish Priest of the Saint John the Evangelist, Pankrono Estate - Kumasi, said as followers of Christ they need to uphold the values of self-denial, sacrifice and service to humanity.

He said this in a homily to celebrate the “Ascension Day”, which comes 40 days after Christ's resurrection.

Rev Fr Opoku asked the congregation to lead pious lives to bring dignity to the church.

He urged them to shun all acts of indiscipline and immorality so as to become good examples to people in their communities.

They should not just profess to be Christians but must reflect Christ-like qualities of humility, modesty, love and care for the sick, the suffering, the poor and the vulnerable, he said.

Rev Fr Opoku also encouraged them to do more to help spread the gospel and turn people away from evil.
