ROME, Italy, May 17, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the appointment of Michele Cervone D'Urso as European Union Special Envoy for Somalia. The appointment is a recognition of the extremely high level of professional expertise and experience of an Italian official from the European External Action Service (EEAS).
Italy has always played a high-profile role in support of the Somali people, including in the context of the European Union's work there. Especially during this period, when Somalia is faced with a crucial transition for its future and, more in general, for the stabilisation of the Horn of Africa.
Cervone D'Urso's appointment brings the total number of Italian officials serving in the EEAS to 99.
