A Class Six Pupil of the Catholic Primary School at Odumase, the District Capital of Sunyani West in the Brong-Ahafo Region, Master Richmond Sactey, has made a passionate appeal to politicians not to do anything to disturb the peace that the nation is currently enjoying.

According to him, any political mayhem in the country will put the future of the Ghanaian child in jeopardy and therefore asked political parties to ensure that this year's elections is free from violence.

Master Sactey made the appeal in an interview at a day's sensitization seminar for pupils of the Odumase Catholic Primary School to mark this year's Citizenship Day Celebration.

The event which was organized by the Sunyani West District Directorate of the NCCE was meant to assist the children to have a better understanding and appreciation of their civic responsibilities and also learn about how to become good citizens.

The same event was also held for the Students of the Odumase Methodist Junior High School. Master Sactey expressed concern over the politics of insults and tribalism that is going on in the country.

He therefore urged politicians to avoid insults and tribalism in their electioneering campaign before, during and after the December polls. He thanked the NCCE for instituting the Citizenship Day, saying it will go a long way to help inculcate in the younger generation the spirit of nationalism.

The Sunyani West District Director of the NCCE, Miss Margret Abrefi Appiah, said it was the first time the Commission has organized Citizenship Day.

The Day, she said was instituted to let students and pupils in schools to know about how to be good citizens.

The celebration of the Day, she further said was also to give the youth the chance to meet and talk with older citizens who live in their communities so that they can emulate them.

Miss Abrefi Appaih said Ghana's democracy is encountering a lot of challenges and it is the Commission's aim to groom the children right from primary school level to inculcate in them their civic responsibilities.

The Presiding Member of the Sunyani West District Assembly, Agyeming Boateng, asked the children to respect other people who do things differently from their own. He further urged them to respect the symbols of the nation like the Flag, the National Anthem and National Pledge to show that they love Ghana.
