Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo The New Patriotic Party presidential candidate for this year’s elections, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has predicted that the NPP will be victorious at the election with him as the next president of the Republic of Ghana.

That, according to him, was due to the abysmal performance of the National Democratic Congress administration led by President J.E.A Mills that had made prices of goods and services to rise astronomically while majority of the people wallowed in poverty.

Nana Akufo-Addo made the prediction when he addressed rallies at Anyinasin, Osiem, New and Old Tafo and Kukurantumi, all in the Abuakwa North Constituency in the Eastern Region, on Saturday.

The NPP presidential candidate was on his first leg tour to the Eastern Region christened “Restoration of Hope” to drum home the need for a change of government at the elections to enable the NPP continue with its good policies which were abrogated when the party lost the 2008 elections.

Nana Akufo Addo, who was taken round the area by the Abuakwa North NPP Constituency Chairman, Mr Douglas Asare, was accompanied by his running mate, Dr Mumuni Bawumia, a former minister of Education and Finance, Mr Osafo Maafo and other top officials of the party.

He said it was now time for a change in government because the “Better Ghana Agenda” of the NDC had totally failed as a result of which prices had gone up astronomically while poverty had become endemic, making it almost impossible for majority of Ghanaians to make a living.

“President Mills promised to drastically reduce the prices of petroleum products and make money available in your pockets but what do you see now? Is it not high prices of goods and services in the midst of poverty?” Nana Akufo-Addo asked.

He said apart from the NPP improving on the capitation grant, free feeding of school children and other poverty alleviation measures, which the party instituted when it came to power in 2000, he would ensure that education at the senior high level would be free for every child to benefit instead of being for students whose parents could afford.

The NPP presidential candidate also promised to create numerous jobs for the unemployed as well as provide social amenities for all, adding that nobody would be left out in sharing the national cake under his administration.

Nana Akufo Addo also paid courtesy calls at the palaces of the chiefs as well as the zongo communities in the areas visited and assured the dwellers that the NPP would not expel any of them, adding that it was a propaganda ploy of its opponents to score cheap political points.

He also advised the party’s supporters in the area to avoid “skirt and blouse” voting since that would not help the NPP but support both the parliamentary candidate, Mr J.B. Danquah Adu and himself.

Nana Akufo-Addo therefore called on Ghanaians to turn out massively and vote for the NPP to come to power.

On his part, Dr Bawumia debunked the assertion by the government that since inflation was at a single digit, the economy had improved, adding that the reality of the situation was that prices were so high that most Ghanaians could not afford to make a living.

He castigated the NDC Government for using propaganda to administer the country, which he said had failed because the people now know the real situation of the economy.

Messrs Osafo Maafo, J.B. Danquah Adu and the current MP for Abuakwa North, Professor Emmanuel Amoako, called on members of the party to unite and rally solidly behind the NPP to win this year’s election.
