ROME, Italy, May 14, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- Minister Terzi welcomes the positive manner in which the parliamentary elections in Algeria were conducted

“We welcome the positive manner in which the parliamentary elections in Algeria were conducted. The decision by the Algerian authorities to allow a European Union mission to observe the procedure confirmed the country's commitment to fostering transparency and open government. This is a step forwards in the process of strengthening Algeria's democratic foundations”. The comment was made by Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi.

Italy is encouraging the Algerian authorities to continue along this pathway, which also envisages local and Senate elections, as well as presidential elections in 2014.
