Mr Gavin van Staden, Vice President Sales and Marketing Africa, said ASSA ABLOY's decision to open a branch in Ghana to offer its services was because of the good economic progress being made by the country and the long years of political stability.

“Ghana is making a lot of strides both in the economic and political front culminating in a stable democracy,” Mr Staden said, adding that a key influential factor was the ease and number of days it took to get the necessary paper works done for the establishment of the company.

ASSA ABLOY is initially beginning its distribution services in Accra and plans to expand to major cities of the country, including Kumasi and Takoradi in the next few years.

Mr Staden said Africa, which currently contributes 2 percent of the global turnover of the company, will remain a focus over the next few years.

“We know there are enough opportunities in the countries in West Africa as well and will be extending our frontiers to those territories,” he said.
