
Essipong (W/R), May 13, GNA – Dr Abu Sakara Foster, was on Saturday elected flagbearer of the Convention People's Party (CPP) for Election 2012, at the party's congress at Essipong, near Sekondi-Takoradi.
The 53-year-old agronomist had 1,130, votes, representing 55.2 per cent of valid votes cast, to defeat Mr Bright Akwetey, an Accra-based lawyer, who polled 917 votes, representing 44.8 per cent of the votes.
In all 2, 047 out of 2,063 delegates voted and 16 of the ballot were rejected.
Mr Kojo Safo Kantanka, Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission in-charge of operations declared Dr Sakara winner of the contest.
Mr Bright Akwetey accepted the results of the election, and pledged his support for the winner.
Dr Sakara thanked the delegates for electing him, and said he would work with the rank and file of the CPP, to enable the party to win the December polls.
The CPP flagbearer said he would live no stone unturned in executing an adventurous campaign to make the CPP victorious.
Dr Sakara presented a smock to Mr Akwetey to signify the unity of the party.
The Chairperson of the CPP, Samia Yaba Nkrumah, thanked the delegates for their cooperation, and said the CPP would support Dr Sakara to lead the party to victory.
