PRESS RELEASE BY YOUTHS IN ACTION FOR ATTA MILLS –KNUST CHAPTER ON THE TOPIC “H.E JOHN MAHAMA AND HON MAHAMUDU BAWUMIA, WHO GHANA NEEDS MOSTS?”

Good Better Ghana day, fellow Ghanaians, the Youths in Action for Atta Mills observed certain erroneous statements and tricks the NPP and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia are playing on the intelligent of the discerning people of this country just in the spirit of getting their vote which to us is very sacred. Indeed it is as a result of those concocted stories that have given us cause for reflection on the live achievements of H.E John Mahama and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and how directly they relate to shaping the life of the average Ghanaian.

As much as we do not doubt the personal achievements of Dr Bawumia, we aver that those achievements have not had any solid positive impact on bettering and improving the life of the carpenter in Asafo Kumasi, the trader in Tamale, the teacher in Keta, the farmer in Bawku , the fisherman in Elmina and Ghanaians as a whole. They were just achievements for his own personal aggrandizements and that of his family.

Surprisingly, one achievement of Dr Bawumia that the NPP and his cronies have been touting so much was the fact that he has been part of the Head of the Monetary Policy and Financial Stability Department of Bank of Ghana, worked to bring inflation down from 40% in 2000 to 18.1% in 2008. But fellow Ghanaians, if the same Dr Bawumia would question and pooh-pooh an inflation rate of 8.46% and describe it as having no direct impact on Ghanaians, then his work as the Deputy Governor of Bank of Ghana which brought down inflation to 18.1% was zero and cannot be accepted as having any bearing on the economy of Ghana and the life of the Ghanaian people and logically, Dr Bawumia has done nothing worthwhile for this country.

Fellow Ghanaians, was Dr Bawumia not part of the Economic Team of this country which deceived Ghanaians in 2004 by going to secure US$ 300million IFC and CNTCI loan from Construction and Investment Limited which happens to be Head dressing Saloon under dubious circumstances? How then can this man be said as having the solution to the Economic challenges of a country he has failed in the past.

One interesting facts about Dr Bawumia that Ghanaians deserve to know is that, he was part of the team that designed and implemented the redenomination of the Cedi. But for more than 5 years, Dr Bawumia and his team have not been able to account to Ghanaians the quantity and amount of money printed into the Ghanaian Economy, the amount spend on the printing of the new Ghana Cedi, the population statistics considered before printing the quantity they printed? As long as all these fundamental questions remain unanswered, Youths in Action for Atta Mills is of the view that Dr Bawumia cannot be taken as a credible person whose hand this dear country can be entrusted into as the second most powerful person. It therefore means that the Good people of this country must have no option than to reject the NPP and Dr Bawumia and rather endorse the affable H.E John Mahama and the NDC, who have been very accountable so far. Dr Bawumia should candidly tell Ghanaians one single change he has been able to bring into the life of the youths, the market women, the masons and the workers of this country as an individual and a professional?

Interestingly and on the contrary, H.E John Mahama lived a life full of sacrifice and dedication towards the emancipation of the poor, the underprivileged and the vulnerable in this country and beyond. He has always stood in favour of justice for all especially the voiceless.

As an eloquent champion of the underprivileged, H.E John Mahama demonstrated his love for Ghana by fighting together with others to see to the establishment of the Ghana AIDS Commissions, which is now the voice of the voiceless AIDS patients and their families.

As visionary as H.E Mahama is , worked as the Deputy Chairman of the Publicity Committee which see to the introduction of the Value Added Tax (VAT). This is a policy the NPP and Dr Bawumia (NPP acclaimed Economist) vehemently opposed. Today had it not been VAT, the economy of Ghana would have been in limbo and in an Intensive Care Unit just as NPP left in 2008.

One very remarkable success H.E John Mahama has chalked when it comes to championing the concerns of the average Ghanaian is in the area of Human Right Advocacy. It would be recalled that on 23rd July, 2005 some 44 Ghanaians and 9 others were cold-bloodedly murdered in Gambia. Dr Bawumia and the NPP could not do anything as government and party in power, it took Hon John Mahama (then an MP) to vehemently raise those issues on the floor of Ghana Parliament and the Pan- African Parliament. He was an ardent critic of the Kufour administration and advocate for a tougher stance to be taken on Gambia. It is no surprise that less than 2 years into leadership of H.E JEA Mills with H.E John Mahama as Vice President of Ghana, justice has been done and the families of those people had been compensated.

Youths in Action for Atta Mills, is of the view that, people of the kind of H.E John Mahama are the leaders whose hands we have to entrust the destiny of Ghana into. But not people who live their private life without making sure that their actions and inactions have positive impact on the generality of the Ghanaian people.

Finally, unlike Dr Bawumia who lives for himself, H.E John Mahama understands the plight of the average and must be given the opportunity again to be the number two in Ghana come 2012.

In that spirit, Youths in Action for Atta Mills call on all Ghanaians to vote massively for H.E Prof. Atta Mills and John Mahama to continue the splendid work they are doing for mother Ghana.
