Dr Abu Sakara (standing, in white smocks), addressing constituency and regional executives of the party in Brong Ahafo Region at the VAG Hall in Sunyani. A presidential aspirant of the Convention People’s Party, Dr Abu Sakara, has said that the party needs committed, dedicated and selfless people to help the CPP recapture political power.
The honour we can do to the memory of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the founder of the CPP, was for all supporters to work hard to bring the CPP to power, he stated.
Dr Sakara was addressing constituency and regional executives of the party in the Brong Ahafo Region at Sunyani as part of his campaign tour to the region to canvass support to win the presidential slot of the party.
He told the supporters who had gathered at the VAG Hall in Sunyani that it was only when the party wins political power that it could be in a better position to resolve the basic fundamental socio-economic challenges that confronts the nation which the NDC and the NPP have so far failed to address.
Subsequently, he said his decision to contest for the flag-bearership position of the party was to help fix the ailing national economy, restore the sense of patriotism among Ghanaians which was fast dying out and also the dignity of the ordinary Ghanaian.
Dr Sakara noted that it was only the CPP that could address the fundamental problems of Ghana because the party holds onto that nationalist view and not that of parochial interest of a party which has been exhibited by the NDC and the NPP for the past times.
He added that the CPP stood the chance of recapturing political power in the forthcoming general elections, since Ghanaians were fed up with the NDC and the NPP and this was time for all supporters of the party to work hard to achieve that feat.
Dr Sakara noted that he had that capacity to mobilise and galvanise support for the party when given the nod as the CPP’s presidential candidate, saying he demonstrated that enough when he served as the first Vice Chairman of the party, Chairman of the Organisational Committee as well as the running mate of the party for the 2008 general elections.
He noted further that with these organisational qualities, he would run a campaign that would involve every member of the party including his competitor in the presidential race of the party, Mr Bright Akwetey.
Dr Sakara further pledged he would work hard to build the party when given the nod as the CPP presidential candidate for the 2012 general election at the party’s congress.”
“We will make a mark in this year’s election which has never been so in the history of the party since Ghana returned to constitutional rule in 1992 when I am voted for at the party’s congress to steer the affairs of the party” he told the party’s executives.
Dr Sakara stated further that under his watch as President of Ghana he would turn the country’s economy into a manufacturing one by using the oil revenue to make strategic investments to create jobs for the people.
He reaffirmed his support for the decision of the national leadership of the party not to follow any presidential aspirant on his campaign trail to help preserve the unity of the party and also their policy to support constituencies that stood the chance of winning to increase its presence in parliament in the 2012 general elections.
Dr Sakara stated that he was for the rebuilding of the party - to help the CPP to improve on its electoral fortunes and even go ahead to capture power in the 2012 general elections, saying whether I win the party’s presidential slot or not I would work for that.
