Three suspects have been arrested by the Odorkor District Police Command for stealing a Toyota Camry with registration number GE 1122-11.

The three, Masawudu Muhammed 45, Ransford Yaw Owusu 25 and Evans Chucks a 26-year old Nigerian were arrested while attempting to sell the car at the Odorkor Post Office.

The Police acting on a tip off from the prospective buyer of the vehicle arrested the suspects and impounded the vehicle.

Masawudu Muhammed who is a driver for the owner of the vehicle confessed upon arrest that he stole the car from his master, Junaid Mohammed, an Indian national adding that he wanted to sell the vehicle to enable him travel to South Africa.

He has since led the police to West Legon where the owner of the vehicle was located. Masawudu is now in Police custody together with his accomplices.

Briefing the media on Thursday, DCOP Patrick Timbilla, the Accra Regional Police Commander cautioned the general public to carefully screen people they intend to employ as drivers to prevent criminals from entering their homes and offices.

He also urged vehicle owners to get the fingerprints and other details of employees, especially drivers and file them at the Police Criminal Investigations Department to ease investigations in case of any criminal activity.

DCOP Timbilla reiterated the existence of the Police Award Scheme for Informants who provide the Police with relevant information to clamp down on criminals and bust out their hideouts. This he noted will ensure peace and security for law abiding citizens.

The suspects are expected to appear in court on Friday May 11 2012.
