Berekum school gets water

Berekum (B/A) May 6, GNA – The Right Reverend (Dr) Kofi Effah Ababio, Chairperson of Berekum West Presbytery of Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has inaugurated a newly-constructed borehole for Presbyterian Senior High School at Brenyekwa in Berekum.

The project was funded by Taminco N.V. of Belgium, an international company that deals in Water for People at the cost of GH¢125,000.

Rev Ababio commended the company for the gesture and appealed to non-governmental organisations in Ghana to emulate the example.

Mr Randolph Stephen Armah, the Ghanaian representative of the company acknowledged the immense support of Mr Frank Sergeant, a Dutch and the company's Director in the execution of the project.

Mr Joseph Mensah-Diawuo, Headmaster of the school expressed appreciation for the gesture, saying the institution had been without adequate water since its establishment 18 years ago.

He said the school, with a population of 1,700 students, had only one borehole and the supply of pipe-borne water by the Ghana Water Company was erratic.

This has compelled the students to queue for water everyday for hours, a situation that is seriously affecting academic work, he added.
