10 Perish In Bloody Crash

Ten lives were lost near Manso in the Nkoranza North District of the Brong Ahafo Region when a Yutong bus with registration number GN 4738-10, loaded with passengers from Bawku, in the Upper East Region, crashed into a stationary tipper truck registered GT 1156-12, loaded with chippings at about 5.30am yesterday.

Five of the passengers in the Yutong bus died on the spot while the rest died at the Holy Family Hospital at Techiman.

Narrating the incident to DAILY GUIDE , the driver of the Yutong bus, Kwame Alex, said it rained the previous night and so the whole stretch of road from Techiman to Kintampo was foggy and visibility was poor.

He said when he negotiated a bend, he came face-to-face with the stationary tipper truck and other trucks parked by the road.

All attempts made to avoid crashing his bus into one of the parked trucks proved futile, he said.

In the process, he lost control and the bus ran into the stationary tipper truck, killing and wounding several passengers.

The asphalted stretch of road from Techiman to Buipe has experienced several nasty road accidents in the past two years.  Several armed robberies have also taken place along the same road.

The unpopular Amina mass rape case was alleged to have taken place along that same stretch of road.
