Some supporters of self-confessed financier of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alfred Agbesi Woyome, are said to have boycotted the ongoing biometric registration exercise.

The supporters, who are mostly in the 'world bank' of the NDC, the Volta Region, the three Northern regions and in the Ashanti Region, were said to have taken the decision in protest of the prosecution of their 'hero' over the controversial GH¢51million judgment debt paid to him.

They said they were unhappy at the manner in which the State and police prosecutors were handling the episode surrounding the payment made to him since they believed that Mr Woyome used legitimate means to earn himself the amount.

Mr. Woyome himself, who confirmed the story, told Accra-based private radio station XYZ, 'I have heard that some people in the Volta Region, the three northern regions and some in the Ashanti Region who sympathize with me are not happy with what has happened to me and are refusing to register.'

Obviously aware of the consequence of their decision, especially in the Volta Region on his party, Mr Woyome thus made a passionate appeal to his supporters to rescind their decision and participate in the national process, saying, 'They should not by any reason do something that would be harmful against themselves and against the very party they belong to by not going to register. It is a very important exercise'.

'I want to tell them that I have registered and I think that Chairman Rawlings and the leadership of the party have registered so they must go and register,' he said.

The State has challenged the claims by Mr Woyome which earned him the money under bizarre circumstances on suspicion of fraud.

He once had cause to express serious reservations about President Mills's posture in the ongoing fracas over the GH¢51.2 million judgment debt and his being put on trial.

Woyome said he was unhappy that the President, being the Chief Executive of the country, was indecisive on the ongoing judgment debt saga, allowing his rights to be trampled upon and making it look as though he was a bad person.

He did not entirely blame President Mills for his woes but what he described as some 'evil hands' close to him in the party who, according to him, had connived with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to destroy his hard-earned reputation.

Mr. Woyome is however optimistic that the truth would prevail in court because it was a court of competent jurisdiction that awarded him the judgment debt.
