Ashanti NDC Chairman denies gun-pulling story
30.04.2012 LISTEN

Kumasi, April 30, GNA – The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, has profusely denied media reports that a member of the Vice President's security detail at the weekend pulled a gun at him.

He insisted he was outside Kumasi at the time the Vice President John Mahama visited, to perform an official duty and wondered how he could have been embroiled in such an incident.

“This is ridiculous, a complete lie, and a fabrication inspired by sheer mischief.”

This was contained in a press statement he issued and signed and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in reaction to the Daily's Guide's Monday, April 30, front page story with the headline “Veep's Bodyguard point's gun at NDC Chairman.”

Mr Obimpeh maintained that he has good relations with the Vice President and is well known to all his security guards and therefore, could not imagine why any of them could threaten him with a gun.

Again the impression that the said publication sought to create that there is a spat between him and the Regional Minister, Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah is both unfortunate and dishonest.

“We have related very well” – there is perfect understanding between the Minister and the entire party.

We are joined together by the common vision of working to expand the support base of the NDC to enable the party to win more votes and retain political power in the 2012 general polls.”
