Sekyere South Assembly records GH¢66,296.97 …in first quarter of 2012

The Sekyere South District Assembly in the Ashanti Region has recorded GH¢66,296.97 as at the end of the first quarter on March 31, 2012.

The Assembly was able to realise the amount out of a budgeted figure of GH¢92,211, representing 71.9%.

Mr. Edward Kissi Ayarkwa, District Chief Executive (DCE), who disclosed this at an Assembly meeting, said an amount of GH¢384,476 was spent as against the quarterly budget of GH¢78,585.99, representing 48.9%.

He said he was optimistic that the Assembly would be able to exceed the target of GH¢368,844 this year, following pragmatic measures management has put in place to improve on the revenue mobilisation drive.

He revealed that the Assembly was able to mobilise GH¢299,427.37 as at 31st December, 2011, an increase of GH¢53,007.37, representing 21.5% more than the estimated GH¢246,420 for the year 2011.

He further indicated that the Assembly scored 91% in the Functional Assessment and Organisation Tool (FOAT) exercise for 2010, which was conducted in January, 2011, making the Assembly, not only among the best in the Ashanti Region, but also throughout the country.

He commended the task force for the work done, and recommended that a new mandate should be given to the members to continue with the good work, as the term of operation for the task force would end in December 2011.

The DCE urged members of the Assembly to begin the process of developing the huge economic potentials in the district to uplift the economic gains of the Assembly.

Such a move, he said, would enable the Assembly properly identify its mining sites, tourist attractions, and other aesthetic features that could entice investors to develop them.

Mr. Ayarkwa charged the Environmental Health Directorate in the district to be up and doing to rekindle the communal spirit of the people, since the communal spirit in the district had diminished drastically.

He said in a bid to step it up, the bye-laws should be applied to the letter, in order to deter recalcitrant people, mostly the youth, from violating them, saying communal labour was critical as far as the development agenda was concerned.
