Four chiefs outdoored at Srogoe

Srogoe (V/R), April 29, GNA - Four chiefs, comprising a queen and 'Agbotaduawo' were outdoored at a novelty joint durbar organised by kingmakers at Srogboe, near Anloga in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region.

The event was meant to cut cost and promote unity among the various units in the area.

The chiefs are 70-year-old Air force retired officer, Group Captain Alfred Tamakloe, who becomes the Miafiaga of Anlo and the Dufia of Whuti under the stool name Togbe Nyaho Tamakloe V.

A 52 year old Chief Accountant of the Controller and Accountant-General's Department, serving as Adaklu-Anyigbe District Finance Officer, becomes the Dufia of Srogboe under the stool name Togbe Tsikata Agbodzie II.

He was known in private life as Geoffrey Kwabla Tsikata.

Evans Fiati, 61, a former employee of the Afife Irrigation Project, is the Dufia of Genui, under the name Togbe Age III, while a former employee of the Takoradi Timbers Limited becomes the new chief of Adzato under the stool name Togbe Agbeve III.

A retired banker, Mrs Paulina Adjua Tsikata-Dsani, 65 is now the Queen of Srogboe, with the name Mama Biana.

Professor Kofi Awoonor, Chairman of the Council of State who was the Guest of Honour lauded the enviable role played by chief in the development of the country.

He however said chiefs urgently need to forge closer links among themselves with the purpose of pooling ideas and resources to facilitate development.

Prof Awoonor said the days when people thought their individual powers and influence was enough for them to achieve their aims was over since governance and administration were projects requiring collective approach.

He appealed to the people to show respect to their chiefs and asked the traditional authorities to also consider the promotion of education in their localities.

Prof Awoonor spoke against the growing indiscipline including drug abuse among the youth and advised them to change in their own interest.

Agbotadua Kumasa, who represented the Anlo Traditional Council appealed for the extension of social amenities to rural communities to help stem the migration of the youth to the urban areas.

Togbe Kporku, Chief of Alakple, who chaired the durbar said poverty is a major obstacle to development and asked the chiefs to gear up to assist in tackling the problem.

Dignitaries at the ceremony included former President Jerry John Rawlings, Mr Victor Gbeho, Chairman of ECOWAS, Mr Dan Abodakpi, Ghana's Ambassador to Malaysia, Mr Alfred Agbesi Woyome, a businessman, Captain Kojo Tsikata, (Rtd) a Presidential Aide, members of parliament and some members of the Council of State.
