Gomoa Nyanyano (C/R), April 29, GNA - The General Superintendent of Saviour Church of Ghana, Reverend Elia Asirifi Dadeako, has appealed to the Christian Council of Ghana to maintain its political neutrality to enable it to play an active role towards a peaceful election.
He said as “Men of God”, they can use their expertise and personalities to advice ruling governments and those in opposition about the importance of peace.
Rev Dadeako gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Gomoa Nyanyano.
He said the council should uphold the principles and values of the Bible and should be bold to advice political leaders and their supporters to see themselves “as one people championing the same cause”.
Rev Dadeako said the council must also let the “political players know that there are rules and regulations in the game which needed to be respected to ensure peace and development”.
He said Ghana can conduct a violence-free election if politicians avoid antagonism, and urged the council to be bold enough to ensure that state institutions deal with any party supporter or leader who flouts the law.
“This is the only way the country can enjoy peace before, during and after December 7 polls” he said.
He said politics of discrimination would not help the nation and that those who have committed various offences during the biometric voter registration must be made to face “the full rigours of the law”, to serve as a deterrent.
Rev Dadeako said Christian leaders have a vital role to play in uniting the nation no matter one's political or ethnic affiliation for socio-economic prosperity.
He appealed to the political parties to stop the character assassinations and the use of intemperate language.
