Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan - EC Chairman The Electoral Commission (EC) says no data was lost in a violent attack and destruction of biometric registration materials at the Kronom SDA registration centre in the Suame Constituency of Kumasi Thursday.

The Ashanti Regional Director of EC, Mr Samuel Tettey, told graphic.com.gh Friday that, “ We have been able to retrieve the memory card of the laptop computer and I can assure you that no data was lost.”

He said, his office had also taken delivery of the other registration kits and that technicians were going to examine them to see what could be done about them.

About 3pm Thursday, about 10 macho men emerged at the registration centre and caused destruction to registration materials before fleeing on their unregistered motorbikes.

The men may have done so with the intention of causing the loss of data but that did not materialise.

Pandemonium broke out as people who had gone to register, and registration officials fled for safety.

Two party agents of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abdul Karim and Osman Yakubu were arrested by the police but had been granted police enquiry bail.

One of them was alleged to have made a phone call and within minutes, the macho men emerged at the scene to cause the destruction.
