Aflao resident in court for assaulting NPP agent at registration centre

Aflao, April 27, GNA - Komlavi Avaga, a resident of Aflao has been arrested by the police at Aflao for allegedly assaulting a New Patriotic Party (NPP) agent, who challenged the nationality of his (Avaga's) wife, at the Avoeme Voter Registration Centre in Aflao.

Avaga who has since been arraigned at an Aflao Circuit Court pleaded not guilty for assault.

He was granted a GH¢ 2,000.00 bail to reappear in court on May 4, this year.

Mr Emmanuel Odonkor, Aflao District Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that on April 23, Avaga arrived at the Registration Centre at about 11.45 hours in the company of his wife, Theresa Atanda, 33, to register.

He said one Christopher Beckley, an NPP agent challenged Atanda's nationality and the registration officials handed over her new voter card to Beckly to enable him to record her particulars on a challenge form.

Mr Odonkor said Avaga got infuriated and kicked Beckly from behind, and pinned him onto the ground hitting him, before by-standers later came to restrain him.
