IN MEMORIUM   FORTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF DEATH OF OSAGYEFO KWAME NKRUMAH

APRIL 27 2012 marks the fortieth anniversary of the death of OSAGYEFO KWAME NKRUMAH, Founder of CONVENTION PEOPLE'S PARTY (CPP) who served as First Prime Minister of Gold Coast/Ghana and as First President of the Republic of Ghana.

As leader of the non-violent revolution that toppled British colonization of the people of Gold Coast, Nkrumah extended nationalism ofGold Coast to reach the rest of African territories ruled by Europeans.

Throughout the continenet of Africa, Nkrumah emphasized the idea of self-determination of the African, as an African, and not a subject of any European people.

Nkrumah advocated the unity of all African societies under one continental government. Hence, the birth of ORGANIZATION OF AFRICAN UNITY (OAU) in 1963 at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, remains a great monument to the life and work of Kwame Nkrumah.

Nkrumah's government in Ghana was overthrown militarily on February 24, 1966, through the instrumentality of agents of world imperialism.

After the overthrow of his government in Ghana, Nkrumah lived in exile at Conakry, GUINEA.

Nkrumah died at a hospital in Bucharest, Romania on April 27, 1972 after a short illness.

During his early years as head of state of of Ghana, President Nkrumah had amicable working relations with with Unite States President J. F. Kennedy. However, United States foreign policy agenda turned against Nkrumah after the death of President Kennedy.

On the anniversary of the death of Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah, supporters of the CONVENTION PEOPLE'S OF GHANA invite all friends of Ghana and Africa to mourn with them. For, the direction and trajectory of development of Ghana have suffered reversals since the death of the illustrous leader Kwame Nkrumah.
