NDC Man Not Perturbed By Antics

ANTHONY AFENYO has confirmed he will be contesting the Ashaiman seat as an independent candidate after failing to clinch the position during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primary.

He has told DAILY GUIDE in a telephone interview the rumors making the rounds that he would pull out from the race were untrue.

He together with three other party members contested against incumbent MP, Alfred Agbesi but lost.

News about his intention to contest as an independent candidate came up strongly some weeks ago when posters of him were spotted around town.

A few days later, rumors started flying about that he might chicken out before the elections while others claimed he was in secret talks with party executives in the constituency to reach an amicable settlement over the matter.

But Mr. Afenyo says these rumours being peddled by certain persons within his party will not deter him from carrying on with his intention. He told the paper it was not true that he was giving up his plans of going independent.

'These are tricks employed by my fellow party members who are bent on throwing dust into the eyes of the majority members. I have not changed my mind and will do no such thing. I want to state it here that I am contesting as an independent candidate and nothing will change that decision.'

'I know what some of them are trying to do just to discourage me from contesting. My car which was parked at my residence   some weeks ago was vandalized with nothing in particular taken from it. I am also aware of some young men and of course known party members, who are going round destroying my posters in this constituency,' he noted wondering why they could not accept and respect his decision.

Sounding very determined he added 'my team and I have worked very hard and are sure of victory come December.'

He also denied that he was simply contesting to ensure the incumbent loses the seat saying 'A large number of party members have pleaded with me to stand as they are prepared to vote massively for me and I'm in this race to win.'

Some party members in the constituency who preferred to be anonymous earlier said Tony's decision stemmed from the fact that he feels he was not given a fair platform to contest against Agbesi during the primary.
