Mamfe, April 20, GNA - The Akuapem North District recorded a 52,252 voters during the first and second phases of the biometric registration exercise, Mr Joseph Addo Boateng, the District Director of Electoral Commission (EC), has said.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Mamfe Akuapem on Friday, Mr Boateng said the first phase recorded 30,644 and the second phase recorded 21,608 with 80 challenged forms in both phases.

He said the 20- day exercise was successful except for a few technical hitches, which were experienced in some areas but were later solved.

Mr Boateng commended all the political parties, especially the two major parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for cooperating with the EC.

He said considering the turn out in the first 20-day of the exercise, he anticipated another good response from the general public in the coming days.

Mr Boateng appealed to the public not to rush to register at a polling station other than where they stay since every polling station would be covered during the 40-day exercise.

He attributed the low figure recorded in the second phase to the fact that some people rushed from their original polling stations and registered at other centres within the same electoral area.

Mr Boateng cautioned those people to note that they could not vote at any other place other than where they registered.

He assured the political parties and all stakeholders in the exercise that they would correct all the necessary mistakes that occurred during the first phase to make the remaining rounds incident free.

Mr Boateng also commended the police for helping to make the exercise a success and urged them not to relent in their efforts to make the entire process incident free.

He said the District had 194 polling stations, which had been divided into 48 clusters with each cluster made up of four polling stations.

Mr Boateng appealed to all political parties and stakeholders to collaborate with the EC to make the remaining exercise incident free.
